The ultimate victory

There are many things which can be considered a victory. The attainment of wealth certainly seems like a win. As does the accumulation of status and respect. The creation and preservation of a loving relationship is a victory of a different kind. As is the birthing and raising of a family, or an institution. Doing something never done before also counts as a tally in the “W” column.

But really, all the above is ephemeral. No matter the seeming magnitude of the win, death extinguishes it. You could be the happiest, wealthiest, most virtuous, most accomplished, most respected person ever to grace this planet, but death will still take you. So perhaps there is only one true way to win, one ultimate victory; to die on your own terms.
